Poem: Oh Hospital Bed

Oh hospital bed

Oh hospital bed

How many you held

Are now dead?

With peeling paint

Where loved ones stood

Contemplating life

Love

And fate?

Oh hospital bed

Oh hospital bed

Worn down to muted tones

How many souls have stayed

And followed you into homes?

Though not a home for bones

You’ve seen more death

Than catacombs

Oh hospital bed

Oh hospital bed

Do some stare down

And never speak a word?

Holding cold hands

To feel something,

To be silently heard?

Starring hard

As the whole world blurs

Oh hospital bed

Oh hospital bed

What do we do?

They untucked her soul

And wheeled her out

And left us with only you

You’ll move on

But the watchers cannot

End their watch

And be through
